Mastercard launched its Global Money Platform, its first major BVNK integration, letting businesses use stablecoins in banking and card payments.

Key points

  • Mastercard launched the Global Money Platform on October 15, 2026
  • It is the first major integration since Mastercard's August BVNK acquisition
  • Nuvei and Marqeta are among the first adopters
  • Businesses can hold fiat and stablecoins and pay out to local bank accounts

Mastercard on Thursday launched the Global Money Platform, a product that lets businesses fold stablecoins into traditional banking and card services, according to Cointelegraph. It is the payments network’s first major integration with BVNK, the stablecoin infrastructure company Mastercard acquired in August. Nuvei and Marqeta are among the first companies to adopt it.

What the Global Money Platform does

According to Mastercard, as relayed by Cointelegraph, businesses on the platform can hold and convert both fiat currency and stablecoins. They can also offer stablecoin-linked cards and pay recipients’ local bank accounts directly from stablecoin balances.

The platform connects to Mastercard Move, the company’s money-transfer service, which Cointelegraph reported can route payments to more than 17 billion destinations. It also links to Mastercard’s merchant network, allowing stablecoin balances to be spent through card acceptance. Several other fintech firms are also among the early adopters, the report said.

The BVNK acquisition behind it

Mastercard said on August 3, 2026, that it had completed its purchase of BVNK. Earlier reporting valued the deal at up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million tied to contingent payments. BVNK’s platform connects banks with blockchain networks through a single API and supports payments across major blockchains in more than 130 countries, according to coverage of the acquisition.

Marqeta, one of the launch adopters, announced a separate partnership with BVNK on September 9 to deliver stablecoin-backed card capabilities. In that arrangement, trade outlets reported, Marqeta continues to handle card issuance, merchant acceptance and relationships with banks and card networks, while BVNK supplies the stablecoin rails.

Competition with Visa and the stablecoin market

Cointelegraph framed the launch as Mastercard moving closer to rival Visa, which introduced a platform in July that lets financial institutions hold, mint and transfer stablecoins.

The report also cited research from Standard Chartered pointing to growing stablecoin transaction activity, even as circulating supplies of USDT and USDC have stayed relatively flat this year. That gap suggests payment use is rising faster than the amount of stablecoins outstanding, though the report did not give specific figures.

Decrypt also covered the launch, according to the feed that flagged the story. Mastercard has not, in the material reviewed, given pricing, fee details or a rollout schedule by region for the platform.

What to watch next

The key questions are how quickly additional banks, payment processors and fintechs sign on, and how much stablecoin volume flows through card and bank payout channels rather than staying on blockchains. Both Mastercard and Visa are now offering infrastructure aimed at the same set of institutional customers.
